The Redtail Ridge organic olive grove was established in 1998 by Peter Gaebler whose vision and persistence won him a Bronze Medal for his Western Australian Mission Organic Olive Oil in his first year of production. Peter has since won state and national awards for his oils in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
These delicious extra virgin olive oils are produced from a number of varieties grown at Redtail Ridge, the main being Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Coratina, Barnea and Mission.
The olives are harvested from late April to June and cold pressed within hours of the pick, resulting in oils of robust and brilliantly balanced flavours with intense characteristics perfect for dipping, salad dressing, marinades and cooking.
As with the wine industry, olive oil can be pressed and bottled by variety or by blending to create unique flavours.
Different varieties of table olives – Kalamata, Manzanillo, Barouni and UC13A6 – are also processed in the traditional manner on the farm.
Redtail Ridge takes its name from the beautiful Redtail cockatoo, native to the picturesque Preston Valley, just 65 kilometres from the City of Bunbury, in the South West of Western Australia.
The climate and ancient soils of this beautiful olive grove are now producing award winning, organic extra virgin olive oil, table olives, honey and beef of extra-ordinary quality and character.
Redtail Ridge's Bronze Medal winning WA Mission oil in 2005 was described by the judges as having "aromas of rocket and green leaves. Fruity on the palate. A balanced oil with firm levels of bitterness and pungency."
